Génesis 4: Caín y Abel.
1 Y CONOCIO Adam á su mujer Eva, la cual concibió y parió á Caín, y dijo: Adquirido he varón por Jehová.
2 Y después parió á su hermano Abel. Y fué Abel pastor de ovejas, y Caín fué labrador de la tierra.
3 Y aconteció andando el tiempo, que Caín trajo del fruto de la tierra una ofrenda á Jehová.
4 Y Abel trajo también de los primogénitos de sus ovejas, y de su grosura. Y miró Jehová con agrado á Abel y á su ofrenda;
5 Mas no miró propicio á Caín y á la ofrenda suya. Y ensañóse Caín en gran manera, y decayó su semblante.
6 Entonces Jehová dijo á Caín: ¿Por qué te has ensañado, y por qué se ha inmutado tu rostro?
7 Si bien hicieres, ¿no serás ensalzado? y si no hicieres bien, el pecado está á la puerta: con todo esto, á ti será su deseo, y tú te enseñorearás de él.
8 Y habló Caín á su hermano Abel: y aconteció que estando ellos en el campo, Caín se levantó contra su hermano Abel, y le mató.
9 Y Jehová dijo á Caín: ¿Dónde está Abel tu hermano? Y él respondió: No sé; ¿soy yo guarda de mi hermano?
10 Y él le dijo: ¿Qué has hecho? La voz de la sangre de tu hermano clama á mí desde la tierra.
11 Ahora pues, maldito seas tú de la tierra que abrió su boca para recibir la sangre de tu hermano de tu mano:
12 Cuando labrares la tierra, no te volverá á dar su fuerza: errante y extranjero serás en la tierra.
13 Y dijo Caín á Jehová: Grande es mi iniquidad para ser perdonada.
14 He aquí me echas hoy de la faz de la tierra, y de tu presencia me esconderé; y seré errante y extranjero en la tierra; y sucederá que cualquiera que me hallare, me matará.
15 Y respondióle Jehová: Cierto que cualquiera que matare á Caín, siete veces será castigado. Entonces Jehová puso señal en Caín, para que no lo hiriese cualquiera que le hallara.
16 Y salió Caín de delante de Jehová, y habitó en tierra de Nod, al oriente de Edén.
17 Y conoció Caín á su mujer, la cual concibió y parió á Henoch: y edificó una ciudad, y llamó el nombre de la ciudad del nombre de su hijo, Henoch.
18 Y á Henoch nació Irad, é Irad engendró á Mehujael, y Mehujael engendró á Methusael, y Methusael engendró á Lamech.
19 Y tomó para sí Lamech dos mujeres; el nombre de la una fué Ada, y el nombre de la otra Zilla.
20 Y Ada parió á Jabal, el cual fué padre de los que habitan en tiendas, y crían ganados.
21 Y el nombre de su hermano fué Jubal, el cual fué padre de todos los que manejan arpa y órgano.
22 Y Zilla también parió á Tubal-Caín, acicalador de toda obra de metal y de hierro: y la hermana de Tubal-Caín fué Naama.
23 Y dijo Lamech á sus mujeres: Ada y Zilla, oid mi voz; Mujeres de Lamech, escuchad mi dicho: Que varón mataré por mi herida, Y mancebo por mi golpe:
24 Si siete veces será vengado Caín, Lamech en verdad setenta veces siete lo será.
25 Y conoció de nuevo Adam á su mujer, la cual parió un hijo, y llamó su nombre Seth: Porque Dios (dijo ella) me ha sustituído otra simiente en lugar de Abel, á quien mató Caín.
26 Y á Seth también le nació un hijo, y llamó su nombre Enós. Entonces los hombres comenzaron á llamarse del nombre de Jehová.

Es por la misericordia de Dios no recibimos lo que merecemos, y es por la gracia de Dios que recibimos lo que no merecemos. “Entonces Jehová puso señal en Caín, para que no lo hiriese cualquiera que le hallara.” [versículo 15, Reina Varela Antigua]. La primera pareja debía procrear y multiplicarse como Dios lo había dicho. De Eva nacieron Caín y Abel. Ambos hijos de una misma madre, pero muy diferentes uno del otro en sus corazones. También en nuestros días pasa lo mismo. No importa cuantos hijos tengas, cada uno tiene algo que lo distingue. En este caso Dios vio con agrado la ofrenda de Abel porque así manifestó Abel su fe en Dios [Hebreos 11:4]. Vio que lo que había en su corazón era agradable a los ojos del Creador. No así con Caín y su reacción motivada por la envidia y el enojo; le llevó a quitarle la vida a su propio hermano. Este fue el primer homicidio registrado en las Sagradas Escrituras. Todo a causa del pecado. También grande fue el castigo. ¿Qué es lo que lleva a un ser humano a cometer crímenes atroces? Del corazón no regenerado salen todas estas cosas [Jeremías 17:9*11]. Pero hay esperanza. ¡Dios pone una marca protectora en Caín y de esa manera muestra una vez más la inexplicable misericordia de Dios manifestándose aún en las perores circunstancias! No lo libra de su responsabilidad [versículo 7], pero lo protege del maligno. “Acerquémonos, pues, con confianza al trono de nuestro Dios amoroso, para que él tenga misericordia de nosotros y en su bondad nos ayude en la hora de necesidad.” [Hebreos 4:16, Dios Habla Hoy].
Genesis 1: Cain Murders Abel.
1 And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the Lord.
2 And she again bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.
3 And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the Lord.
4 And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the Lord had respect unto Abel and to his offering:
5 But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.
6 And the Lord said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen?
7 If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.
8 And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.
9 And the Lord said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother’s keeper?
10 And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother’s blood crieth unto me from the ground.
11 And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother’s blood from thy hand;
12 When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth.
13 And Cain said unto the Lord, My punishment is greater than I can bear.
14 Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall slay me.
15 And the Lord said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the Lord set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him.
16 And Cain went out from the presence of the Lord, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden.
17 And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch: and he builded a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch.
18 And unto Enoch was born Irad: and Irad begat Mehujael: and Mehujael begat Methusael: and Methusael begat Lamech.
19 And Lamech took unto him two wives: the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other Zillah.
20 And Adah bare Jabal: he was the father of such as dwell in tents, and of such as have cattle.
21 And his brother’s name was Jubal: he was the father of all such as handle the harp and organ.
22 And Zillah, she also bare Tubalcain, an instructer of every artificer in brass and iron: and the sister of Tubalcain was Naamah.
23 And Lamech said unto his wives, Adah and Zillah, Hear my voice; ye wives of Lamech, hearken unto my speech: for I have slain a man to my wounding, and a young man to my hurt.
24 If Cain shall be avenged sevenfold, truly Lamech seventy and sevenfold.
25 And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Seth: For God, said she, hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew.
26 And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enos: then began men to call upon the name of the Lord.

It is by God’s mercy that we do not receive what we deserve, and it is by God’s grace that we receive what we do not deserve. “So Adonai put a mark on Cain, so that anyone who found him would not strike him down.” [verse 15, Tree of Life Translation]. The first couple was to procreate and multiply as God had said. From Eve were born Cain and Abel. Both children of the same mother, but very different from each other in their hearts. It’s the same today, too. No matter how many children you have, each one has something that sets them apart. In this case, God welcomed Abel’s offering because it manifested Abel’s faith in God [Hebrews 11:4]. He saw that what was in his heart was pleasing in the eyes of the Creator. No so with Cain and his reaction motivated by envy and anger led him to take his own brother’s life. This was the first homicide recorded in the Holy Scriptures. All because of sin. The punishment was also great. What is it that drives a human being to commit heinous crimes? Out of the unregenerate heart proceed all these things [Jeremiah 17:9-11]. But there is hope. God puts a protective mark on Cain and thus shows once again God’s inexplicable mercy manifesting itself even in the worst of circumstances! It does not relieve him of his responsibility [verse 7], but it protects him from the evil one. “Let us therefore approach the throne of grace with fullest confidence, that we may receive mercy for our failures and grace to help in the hour of need.” [Hebrews 4:16, Phillips Translation].
