Éxodo 28: Las vestiduras sacerdotales.
1 »Haz que comparezcan ante ti tu hermano Aarón y sus hijos Nadab, Abiú, Eleazar e Itamar. De entre todos los israelitas, ellos me servirán como sacerdotes. 2 Hazle a tu hermano Aarón vestiduras sagradas que le confieran honra y dignidad. 3 Habla con todos los expertos a quienes he dado habilidades especiales, para que hagan las vestiduras de Aarón y así lo consagre yo como mi sacerdote.
4 »Las vestiduras que harás son las siguientes: un pectoral, un efod, un manto, una túnica bordada, un turbante y una faja. Estas vestiduras sagradas se harán para tu hermano Aarón y para sus hijos, a fin de que me sirvan como sacerdotes. 5 Al efecto se usará oro, lana color azul, carmesí, escarlata y tela de lino.
El efod
6 »El efod se bordará artísticamente con hilo de oro, lana color azul, carmesí, escarlata y tela de lino fino. 7 En sus dos extremos tendrá hombreras con cintas para que pueda sujetarse. 8 El cinturón bordado con el que se sujeta el efod deberá ser del mismo material; es decir, de oro, lana color azul, carmesí, escarlata y tela de lino fino, y formará con el efod una sola pieza.
9 »Toma dos piedras de ónice y graba en ellas los nombres de los doce hijos de Israel 10 por orden de nacimiento, seis nombres en una piedra y seis en la otra. 11 Un joyero grabará los nombres en las dos piedras, como los orfebres graban sellos: engarzará las piedras en filigrana de oro 12 y las sujetará a las hombreras del efod para recordar a los hijos de Israel. Así Aarón llevará en sus hombros los nombres de los hijos de Israel delante del Señor. 13 Haz también engastes en filigrana de oro 14 y dos cadenillas de oro puro, a manera de cordón, para fijar las cadenillas en los engastes.
El pectoral
15 »El pectoral para impartir justicia lo bordarás artísticamente, con hilo de oro, lana color azul, carmesí, escarlata y tela de lino fino, tal como hiciste con el efod. 16 Será doble y cuadrado, de un palmo[a] de largo por uno de ancho. 17 Engarzarás en él cuatro hileras de piedras preciosas. En la primera hilera pondrás un rubí, un crisólito y una esmeralda; 18 en la segunda, una turquesa, un zafiro y un jade; 19 en la tercera, un jacinto, un ágata y una amatista; 20 en la cuarta, un topacio, un ónice y un jaspe.[b] Engárzalas en filigrana de oro. 21 Deben ser doce piedras, una por cada uno de los hijos de Israel. Cada una llevará grabada como un sello el nombre de una de las doce tribus.
22 »Para el pectoral haz unas cadenillas de oro puro en forma de cordón. 23 Ponle al pectoral dos anillos de oro y sujétalos a sus dos extremos. 24 Sujeta las dos cadenillas de oro a los anillos de los extremos del pectoral, 25 y une los extremos de las cadenillas a los dos engastes, para fijarlos por la parte delantera a las hombreras del efod.
26 »Haz otros dos anillos de oro y fíjalos a los otros dos extremos del pectoral, en el borde interior, junto al efod. 27 Haz dos anillos más, también de oro, para fijarlos por el frente del efod, pero por debajo de las hombreras, cerca de la costura que va justamente arriba del cinturón. 28 Los anillos del pectoral deberán sujetarse a los anillos del efod con un cordón color azul, a fin de unir el pectoral al cinturón para que no se desprenda del efod.
29 »De este modo, siempre que Aarón entre en el Lugar Santo, llevará sobre su corazón, en el pectoral para impartir justicia, los nombres de los hijos de Israel para recordarlos siempre ante el Señor. 30 Sobre el pectoral para impartir justicia pondrás el urim y el tumim. De esta manera, siempre que Aarón se presente ante el Señor, llevará sobre el corazón la causa de los israelitas.
Otras vestiduras sacerdotales
31 »Haz de lana color azul todo el manto del efod, 32 con una abertura en el centro para meter la cabeza. Alrededor de la abertura le pondrás un refuerzo tejido, como el que se pone a los chalecos,[c] para que no se desgarre. 33 En torno al borde inferior del manto pondrás granadas de lana color azul, carmesí y escarlata, alternándolas con campanillas de oro. 34 Por todo el borde del manto pondrás primero una campanilla y luego una granada. 35 Aarón debe llevar puesto el manto mientras esté ejerciendo su ministerio, para que el tintineo de las campanillas se oiga todo el tiempo que él esté ante el Señor en el Lugar Santo y así él no muera.
36 »Haz una placa de oro puro y graba en ella, a manera de sello:
consagrado al Señor.
37 Sujétala al turbante con un cordón color azul, de modo que quede fija a este por la parte delantera. 38 Esta placa estará siempre sobre la frente de Aarón, para que el Señor acepte todas las ofrendas sagradas de los israelitas, ya que Aarón llevará sobre sí el pecado en que ellos incurran al dedicar sus ofrendas sagradas.
39 »La túnica y el turbante los harás de tela de lino. La faja deberá estar preparada de forma artística. 40 A los hijos de Aarón les harás túnicas, fajas y mitras, para conferirles honra y dignidad. 41 Una vez que hayas vestido a tu hermano Aarón y a sus hijos, los ungirás para conferirles autoridad[d] y consagrarlos como mis sacerdotes.
42 »Haz también la ropa interior con la tela de lino que cubra el cuerpo desde la cintura hasta el muslo. 43 Aarón y sus hijos deberán ponérselos siempre que entren en la Tienda de reunión, o cuando se acerquen al altar para ejercer su ministerio en el Lugar Santo, a fin de que no incurran en pecado y mueran.
»Este es un estatuto perpetuo para Aarón y sus descendientes.

“Habla con todos los expertos a quienes he dado habilidades especiales, para que hagan las vestiduras de Aarón y así lo consagre yo como mi sacerdote.” [versículo 3, Nueva Version Internacional]. No necesariamente todas las cosas “grandes” impactan al prójimo; a veces, algo pequeño, in detallito como a veces decimos, puede cambian una vida. ¿Por qué tanto detalle? El tabernáculo sería la morada de Dios y por ser Su morada debía ser hermosa porque allí Él manifestaría su esplendor. También quien ejerciera el sacerdocio debía también vestir con ornamentos especiales. La importancia no estaba en la vestimenta en sí, sino en Aquel a quien ellos representaban. Cada parte de la vestidura sacerdotal tenía su significado: El efod, un tipo de chaleco largo sin mangas, con sus muchos colores daba la idea de las variadas excelencias de Dios manifestado en carne. El manto era de un solo color: jacinto (azul) por ser el color celestial manifestaba su origen y carácter. La túnica de lino fino y blanco hablaba de Su justicia inmaculada. El cinturón indica Su servicio. La mitra (turbante o sombrero) que rodeaba su cabeza representaba Su infalible inteligencia, sobre ella una lámina (diadema) de oro fino en la cual estaría grabado: Santidad a Jehová. Hoy Dios nos ofrece otra vestidura mucho más sencilla, pero de más valor aun: Sobre todo, vístanse de amor, lo cual nos une a todos en perfecta armonía (Colosenses 3:14 Versión Nueva Traducción Viviente). ¿Te gustaría ponerte esta vestidura hoy?
Exodus 28: The Priestly Garments.
1 “Have Aaron your brother brought to you from among the Israelites, along with his sons Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar, so they may serve me as priests. 2 Make sacred garments for your brother Aaron to give him dignity and honor. 3 Tell all the skilled workers to whom I have given wisdom in such matters that they are to make garments for Aaron, for his consecration, so he may serve me as priest. 4 These are the garments they are to make: a breastpiece, an ephod, a robe, a woven tunic, a turban and a sash. They are to make these sacred garments for your brother Aaron and his sons, so they may serve me as priests. 5 Have them use gold, and blue, purple and scarlet yarn, and fine linen.
The Ephod
6 “Make the ephod of gold, and of blue, purple and scarlet yarn, and of finely twisted linen—the work of skilled hands. 7 It is to have two shoulder pieces attached to two of its corners, so it can be fastened. 8 Its skillfully woven waistband is to be like it—of one piece with the ephod and made with gold, and with blue, purple and scarlet yarn, and with finely twisted linen.
9 “Take two onyx stones and engrave on them the names of the sons of Israel 10 in the order of their birth—six names on one stone and the remaining six on the other. 11 Engrave the names of the sons of Israel on the two stones the way a gem cutter engraves a seal. Then mount the stones in gold filigree settings 12 and fasten them on the shoulder pieces of the ephod as memorial stones for the sons of Israel. Aaron is to bear the names on his shoulders as a memorial before the Lord. 13 Make gold filigree settings 14 and two braided chains of pure gold, like a rope, and attach the chains to the settings.
The Breastpiece
15 “Fashion a breastpiece for making decisions—the work of skilled hands. Make it like the ephod: of gold, and of blue, purple and scarlet yarn, and of finely twisted linen. 16 It is to be square—a span[a] long and a span wide—and folded double. 17 Then mount four rows of precious stones on it. The first row shall be carnelian, chrysolite and beryl; 18 the second row shall be turquoise, lapis lazuli and emerald; 19 the third row shall be jacinth, agate and amethyst; 20 the fourth row shall be topaz, onyx and jasper.[b] Mount them in gold filigree settings. 21 There are to be twelve stones, one for each of the names of the sons of Israel, each engraved like a seal with the name of one of the twelve tribes.
22 “For the breastpiece make braided chains of pure gold, like a rope. 23 Make two gold rings for it and fasten them to two corners of the breastpiece. 24 Fasten the two gold chains to the rings at the corners of the breastpiece, 25 and the other ends of the chains to the two settings, attaching them to the shoulder pieces of the ephod at the front. 26 Make two gold rings and attach them to the other two corners of the breastpiece on the inside edge next to the ephod. 27 Make two more gold rings and attach them to the bottom of the shoulder pieces on the front of the ephod, close to the seam just above the waistband of the ephod. 28 The rings of the breastpiece are to be tied to the rings of the ephod with blue cord, connecting it to the waistband, so that the breastpiece will not swing out from the ephod.
29 “Whenever Aaron enters the Holy Place, he will bear the names of the sons of Israel over his heart on the breastpiece of decision as a continuing memorial before the Lord. 30 Also put the Urim and the Thummim in the breastpiece, so they may be over Aaron’s heart whenever he enters the presence of the Lord. Thus Aaron will always bear the means of making decisions for the Israelites over his heart before the Lord.
Other Priestly Garments
31 “Make the robe of the ephod entirely of blue cloth, 32 with an opening for the head in its center. There shall be a woven edge like a collar[c] around this opening, so that it will not tear. 33 Make pomegranates of blue, purple and scarlet yarn around the hem of the robe, with gold bells between them. 34 The gold bells and the pomegranates are to alternate around the hem of the robe. 35 Aaron must wear it when he ministers. The sound of the bells will be heard when he enters the Holy Place before the Lord and when he comes out, so that he will not die.
36 “Make a plate of pure gold and engrave on it as on a seal: holy to the Lord. 37 Fasten a blue cord to it to attach it to the turban; it is to be on the front of the turban. 38 It will be on Aaron’s forehead, and he will bear the guilt involved in the sacred gifts the Israelites consecrate, whatever their gifts may be. It will be on Aaron’s forehead continually so that they will be acceptable to the Lord.
39 “Weave the tunic of fine linen and make the turban of fine linen. The sash is to be the work of an embroiderer. 40 Make tunics, sashes and caps for Aaron’s sons to give them dignity and honor. 41 After you put these clothes on your brother Aaron and his sons, anoint and ordain them. Consecrate them so they may serve me as priests.
42 “Make linen undergarments as a covering for the body, reaching from the waist to the thigh. 43 Aaron and his sons must wear them whenever they enter the tent of meeting or approach the altar to minister in the Holy Place, so that they will not incur guilt and die.
“This is to be a lasting ordinance for Aaron and his descendants.

“Tell all the skilled workers to whom I have given wisdom in such matters that they are to make garments for Aaron, for his consecration, so he may serve me as priest” [verse 3, new International Version]. Not necessarily all “big” things impact others; sometimes, something small, “a little something,” as we sometimes say, can change a life. Why so much detail? The tabernacle would be the dwelling place of God and because it was His dwelling it had to be beautiful, He would manifest His splendor there. Likewise, he who would officiate as a priest should also wear special ornaments. The importance was not in the dress itself, but in the One they represented. Each part of the priestly garment had its meaning: The ephod, a type of long sleeveless vest, with its many colors gave the idea of the wide-ranging excellences of God manifested in human flesh. The mantle was of a single color: opal (blue), the celestial color, manifested His origin and character. The tunic of fine white linen spoke of His immaculate justice. The belt indicates His service. The miter (turban or hat) that surrounded his head represented His infallible intelligence, on it a sheet (diadem) of fine gold engraved: Holiness to Jehovah would be placed. Today God offers us yet another garment that is much simpler but even more valuable: Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which unites us all in perfect harmony (Colossians 3:14 New Living Translation Version).
