Mateo 5: El Sermón del monte: Las bienaventuranzas.
1 Y VIENDO las gentes, subió al monte; y sentándose, se llegaron á él sus discípulos.
2 Y abriendo su boca, les enseñaba, diciendo:
3 Bienaventurados los pobres en espíritu: porque de ellos es el reino de los cielos.
4 Bienaventurados los que lloran: porque ellos recibirán consolación.
5 Bienaventurados los mansos: porque ellos recibirán la tierra por heredad.
6 Bienaventurados los que tienen hambre y sed de justicia: porque ellos serán hartos.
7 Bienaventurados los misericordiosos: porque ellos alcanzarán misericordia.
8 Bienaventurados los de limpio corazón: porque ellos verán á Dios.
9 Bienaventurados los pacificadores: porque ellos serán llamados hijos de Dios.
10 Bienaventurados los que padecen persecución por causa de la justicia: porque de ellos es el reino de los cielos.
11 Bienaventurados sois cuando os vituperaren y os persiguieren, y dijeren de vosotros todo mal por mi causa, mintiendo.
12 Gozaos y alegraos; porque vuestra merced es grande en los cielos: que así persiguieron á los profetas que fueron antes de vosotros.
13 Vosotros sois la sal de la tierra: y si la sal se desvaneciere ¿con qué será salada? no vale más para nada, sino para ser echada fuera y hollada de los hombres.
14 Vosotros sois la luz del mundo: una ciudad asentada sobre un monte no se puede esconder.
15 Ni se enciende una lámpara y se pone debajo de un almud, mas sobre el candelero, y alumbra á todos los que están en casa.
16 Así alumbre vuestra luz delante de los hombres, para que vean vuestras obras buenas, y glorifiquen á vuestro Padre que está en los cielos.
17 No penséis que he venido para abrogar la ley ó los profetas: no he venido para abrogar, sino á cumplir.
18 Porque de cierto os digo, que hasta que perezca el cielo y la tierra, ni una jota ni un tilde perecerá de la ley, hasta que todas las cosas sean hechas.
19 De manera que cualquiera que infringiere uno de estos mandamientos muy pequeños, y así enseñare á los hombres, muy pequeño será llamado en el reino de los cielos: mas cualquiera que hiciere y enseñare, éste será llamado grande en el reino de los cielos.
20 Porque os digo, que si vuestra justicia no fuere mayor que la de los escribas y de los Fariseos, no entraréis en el reino de los cielos.
21 Oísteis que fué dicho á los antiguos: No matarás; mas cualquiera que matare, será culpado del juicio.
22 Mas yo os digo, que cualquiera que se enojare locamente con su hermano, será culpado del juicio; y cualquiera que dijere á su hermano, Raca, será culpado del concejo; y cualquiera que dijere, Fatuo, será culpado del infierno del fuego.
23 Por tanto, si trajeres tu presente al altar, y allí te acordares de que tu hermano tiene algo contra ti,
24 Deja allí tu presente delante del altar, y vete, vuelve primero en amistad con tu hermano, y entonces ven y ofrece tu presente.
25 Concíliate con tu adversario presto, entre tanto que estás con él en el camino; porque no acontezca que el adversario te entregue al juez, y el juez te entregue al alguacil, y seas echado en prisión.
26 De cierto te digo, que no saldrás de allí, hasta que pagues el último cuadrante.
27 Oísteis que fué dicho: No adulterarás:
28 Mas yo os digo, que cualquiera que mira á una mujer para codiciarla, ya adulteró con ella en su corazón.
29 Por tanto, si tu ojo derecho te fuere ocasión de caer, sácalo, y échalo de ti: que mejor te es que se pierda uno de tus miembros, que no que todo tu cuerpo sea echado al infierno.
30 Y si tu mano derecha te fuere ocasión de caer, córtala, y échala de ti: que mejor te es que se pierda uno de tus miembros, que no que todo tu cuerpo sea echado al infierno.
31 También fué dicho: Cualquiera que repudiare á su mujer, déle carta de divorcio:
32 Mas yo os digo, que el que repudiare á su mujer, fuera de causa de fornicación, hace que ella adultere; y el que se casare con la repudiada, comete adulterio.
33 Además habéis oído que fué dicho á los antiguos: No te perjurarás; mas pagarás al Señor tus juramentos.
34 Mas yo os digo: No juréis en ninguna manera: ni por el cielo, porque es el trono de Dios;
35 Ni por la tierra, porque es el estrado de sus pies; ni por Jerusalem, porque es la ciudad del gran Rey.
36 Ni por tu cabeza jurarás, porque no puedes hacer un cabello blanco ó negro.
37 Mas sea vuestro hablar: Sí, sí; No, no; porque lo que es más de esto, de mal procede.
38 Oísteis que fué dicho á los antiguos: Ojo por ojo, y diente por diente.
39 Mas yo os digo: No resistáis al mal; antes á cualquiera que te hiriere en tu mejilla diestra, vuélvele también la otra;
40 Y al que quisiere ponerte á pleito y tomarte tu ropa, déjale también la capa;
41 Y á cualquiera que te cargare por una milla, ve con él dos.
42 Al que te pidiere, dale; y al que quisiere tomar de ti prestado, no se lo rehuses.
43 Oísteis que fué dicho: Amarás á tu prójimo, y aborrecerás á tu enemigo.
44 Mas yo os digo: Amad á vuestros enemigos, bendecid á los que os maldicen, haced bien á los que os aborrecen, y orad por los que os ultrajan y os persiguen;
45 Para que seáis hijos de vuestro Padre que está en los cielos: que hace que su sol salga sobre malos y buenos, y llueve sobre justos é injustos.
46 Porque si amareis á los que os aman, ¿qué recompensa tendréis? ¿no hacen también lo mismo los publicanos?
47 Y si abrazareis á vuestros hermanos solamente, ¿qué hacéis de más? ¿no hacen también así los Gentiles?
48 Sed, pues, vosotros perfectos, como vuestro Padre que está en los cielos es perfecto.

El secreto de la felicidad en un plano superior. Varias veces en este capítulo Jesús les dijo: oísteis que fue dicho … más yo os digo. Hemos siempre oído que somos dichosos cuando todo nos va bien. En esta incomparable introducción al más famoso discurso del Señor descubrimos que hay otros principios mas profundos y más permanentes. Soy dichoso cuando reconozco mi pobreza interior y descubro que solo Dios puede llenar ese vacío; soy dichoso no solo cuando mi llanto es de arrepentimiento y por medio de ello recibo el perdón, sino también cuando lloro por el prójimo sabiendo que esto agrada a Dios; Soy dichoso cuando en sabia mansedumbre dejo de tratar de controlar las circunstancias y le cedo el control a Dios. Soy dichoso cuando tengo hambre y sed de justicia porque Él sacia mi necesidad de parecerme más a Él; Soy dichoso cuando muestro misericordia porque estoy dando de lo que he recibido de Él; Soy dichoso cuando aprendiendo a desechar lo malo disfruto de más profunda comunión. Soy dichoso cuando cambio mis perspectivas y al mostrar amor, tolerancia y paciencia permito que la paz de Dios resuelva las diferencias. Soy dichoso cuando aprendo a soportar las injusticias por amor a Cristo. Al prepararnos para un nuevo año descubrimos que tenemos a nuestro alcance todo lo que necesitamos para ser dichosos o bienaventurados viviendo en un plano superior, viendo la vida como Cristo la vió.

1 And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him:
2 And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,
3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.
13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
20 For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.
21 Ye have heard that it was said of them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:
22 But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.
23 Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee;
24 Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.
25 Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison.
26 Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing.
27 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:
28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.
29 And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.
30 And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.
31 It hath been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement:
32 But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.
33 Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths:
34 But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God’s throne:
35 Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King.
36 Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black.
37 But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.
38 Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:
39 But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.
40 And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also.
41 And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.
42 Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.
43 Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.
44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
46 For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?
47 And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?
48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

The secret of happiness in a higher plane. Several times in this chapter Jesus said to them: you heard that it was said … but I tell you. We’ve always heard that we’re blessed when everything’s well with us. In this incomparable introduction to the Lord’s most famous discourse we discover that there are other deeper and more permanent principles regarding true joy in life. I am blessed when I recognize my inner poverty and discover that only God can fill that void; I am blessed not only when my cry expressed my sincere repentance and through it, I receive forgiveness, but also when I weep for my neighbour knowing that this pleases God; I am blessed when in wise meekness I stop trying to control the circumstances and give the control to God. I am blessed when I am hungry and thirsty for righteousness because He satisfies my deepest needs and I look more like Him; I am blessed when I show mercy because I am giving of what I have received from Him; I am blessed when learning to cleanse evil thoughts and deeds within me and I enjoy deeper communion with Him. I am blessed when I change my perspectives and by showing love, tolerance, and peace, I allow God’s peace to reconcile seemingly unreconcilable differences. I am blessed when I learn out of love for Christ, to endure injustices. As we prepare for a new year, we discover that we have within our reach all we need to be blessed or joyful living our life on a higher plane, seeing life as Christ saw it.
