Salmos 8: La gloria divina y la dignidad humana.

8 Oh Señor, Soberano nuestro,
¡qué imponente es tu nombre en toda la tierra!

¡Has puesto tu gloria sobre los cielos!
2 Con la alabanza que brota de los labios de los pequeñitos
y de los niños de pecho
has construido una fortaleza,
para silenciar al enemigo y al vengativo.
3 Cuando contemplo tus cielos,
obra de tus dedos,
la luna y las estrellas que allí fijaste,
4 me pregunto:
«¿Qué es el hombre para que en él pienses?
¿Qué es el hijo del hombre para que lo tomes en cuenta?».

5 Lo hiciste poco menor que los ángeles[b]
y lo coronaste de gloria y de honra.
6 Le diste dominio sobre la obra de tus manos;
todo lo pusiste bajo sus pies:
7 todas las ovejas, todos los bueyes,
todos los animales del campo,
8 las aves del cielo,
los peces del mar
y todo lo que surca los senderos del mar.

“Cuando veo tus cielos, obra de tus dedos, la luna y las estrellas que tú formaste, digo: ¿Qué es el hombre para que tengas de él memoria, y el hijo del hombre para que lo visites?” (Salmo 8:3-4, RVR 1960). Cuando el astronauta Neil Armstrong miró la Tierra desde la Luna, dijo: “Es un pequeño guijarro, hermoso, brillante, azul y blanco, colgado en la oscuridad” Este momento de asombro refleja lo que expresa nuestro Salmo. Dios puede hacer todo lo que quiere (y lo hace), pero no necesita hacer todo lo que puede (y no lo hace). Es decir, el poder infinito de Dios se manifiesta en las obras de la creación, pero no se agota en ellas. Dios podría haber creado más de lo que ha hecho, si así lo hubiese deseado. Por lo tanto, lo que Dios ha hecho no es una medida de lo que podría haber hecho o puede hacer. [Sam Storms]. Desde el vasto cosmos, nuestra existencia parece insignificante, pero Dios, en Su amor, nos dio un lugar especial en Su creación. Nos solo nos hizo y nos confió el cuidado de la creación; nos amó de tal manera que dio a Su Hijo unigénito para que todo aquel que en Él crea, no se pierda, mas tenga vida eterna. [Juan 3;16]. Aún más, nos hizo “poco menor que los ángeles” y nos confió el cuidado de Su obra. Al contemplar el universo y nuestro frágil hogar, recordemos que somos valiosos para Dios. Vivamos en gratitud y asombro por Su amor y cuidado hacia nosotros, ¡el Creador del cielo y la Tierra!

1 Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!

You have set your glory
in the heavens.
2 Through the praise of children and infants
you have established a stronghold against your enemies,
to silence the foe and the avenger.
3 When I consider your heavens,
the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
4 what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care for them?[c]

5 You have made them[d] a little lower than the angels[e]
and crowned them[f] with glory and honor.
6 You made them rulers over the works of your hands;
you put everything under their[g] feet:
7 all flocks and herds,

“When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them? [verses 3-4, NIV]. When astronaut Neil Armstrong looked at Earth from the Moon, he said, “It is a small pebble, beautiful, bright, blue, and white, hanging in the darkness.” This moment of awe reflects what our Psalm expresses. God can do all He wills (and does), but He need not do all He can (and does not). That is to say, God’s infinite power is manifested in the works of creation but is not exhausted by them. God could have created more than He has if He so pleased. Therefore, what God has done is no measure of what He could have done or can do. [Sam Storms]. From the vast cosmos, our existence may seem insignificant, yet God, in His love, gave us a special place in His creation. Not only did He create us and entrust us with the care of His creation, but He also loved us so much that He gave His only Son, so that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. [John 3:16]. Moreover, He made us “a little lower than the angels” and entrusted us with the care of His works. As we contemplate the universe and our fragile home, let us remember that we are valuable to God. Let us live in gratitude and awe for His love and care for us, the Creator of heaven and earth!
