1 ¿Hasta cuándo, Señor, me tendrás en el olvido?
¿Hasta cuándo esconderás de mí tu rostro?
2 ¿Hasta cuándo he de atormentar mi mente con preocupaciones
y he de sufrir cada día en mi corazón?
¿Hasta cuándo mi enemigo triunfará sobre mí?

3 Señor y Dios mío,
mírame y respóndeme; ilumina mis ojos.
Así no caeré en el sueño de la muerte;
4 así no dirá mi enemigo: «Lo he vencido»;
así mi adversario no se alegrará de mi caída.

5 Pero yo confío en tu gran amor;
mi corazón se alegra en tu salvación.
6 Cantaré salmos al Señor,
porque ha sido bueno conmigo.

“Mi Señor y Dios, ¿vas a tenerme siempre olvidado? ¿Vas a negarte a mirarme? ¿Debe seguir mi corazón siempre angustiado, siempre sufriendo?” [versículo 1, TLA]. Llegamos al aeropuerto temprano. Abordamos a tiempo. Después de una hora y media en el avión, nos preguntábamos: ¿¡Hasta cuándo!? Un desperfecto tras otro. Regresamos al punto de partida. “¿Hasta cuándo?”, preguntaban los pasajeros. Anuncio tras anuncio, y cinco horas después, finalmente abordamos de nuevo. Los pasajeros se impacientaban; todos nos hacíamos la misma pregunta: ¿Hasta cuándo? Qué trivial podría parecer esta pregunta a padres que, durante décadas, han clamado a Dios para que libere a su hijo de las drogas y no han visto ningún cambio? Aunque muchas veces se habrán preguntado: ¿Hasta cuándo?, también hemos escuchado de los labios de estos padres la misma confianza que expresa David en este salmo, en los versículos cinco y seis: “Mas yo en tu misericordia he confiado; mi corazón se regocijará en tu salvación. Cantaré al SEÑOR, porque me ha colmado de bienes.” (Nueva Versión Internacional). Ellas recuerdan las cosas buenas que Dios les ha dado y, ahora, en la adversidad, siguen confiando porque conocen a Dios. Así se prueba la fe, no en los aeropuertos, sino en las tormentas de la vida. “Puedo confiar en el Señor; no me va a fallar. Si el sol llegara a oscurecer y no brille más, yo igual confío en el Señor; no me va a fallar.” — Autor desconocido. No desfallezcas. Sigue confiando en Él, ¡no te va a fallar!

1 How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever?
How long will you hide your face from me?
2 How long must I wrestle with my thoughts
and day after day have sorrow in my heart?
How long will my enemy triumph over me?

We arrived at the airport early. We boarded on time. After an hour and a half on the plane, we wondered: “How long?” One malfunction after another. We returned to the starting point. “How long?” asked the passengers. Announcement after announcement, and five hours later, we were finally boarding again. The passengers grew impatient; we all asked ourselves the same question: “How long?”
How trivial this question might seem to a mother who has spent six years without seeing any improvement in her daughter’s health, who remains in a coma this weekend. What can we say about a mother who, for decades, has cried out to God to free her son from drug addiction and has seen no change? Although they may have often asked themselves, “How long?” we have also heard from these mothers the same confidence that David expresses in this psalm, in verses five and six:
“But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation. I will sing the Lord’s praise, for he has been good to me.” (New International Version)
They remember the good things God has given them and, now, in adversity, they continue to trust because they know God. This is how faith is tested—not in airports but in life’s storms.
