1 Habló Jehová a Moisés, diciendo: 2 Habla a Aarón y dile: Cuando enciendas las lámparas, las siete lámparas alumbrarán hacia adelante del candelero. 3 Y Aarón lo hizo así; encendió hacia la parte anterior del candelero sus lámparas, como Jehová lo mandó a Moisés. 4 Y esta era la hechura del candelero, de oro labrado a martillo; desde su pie hasta sus flores era labrado a martillo; conforme al modelo que Jehová mostró a Moisés, así hizo el candelero.

5 También Jehová habló a Moisés, diciendo: 6 Toma a los levitas de entre los hijos de Israel, y haz expiación por ellos. 7 Así harás para expiación por ellos: Rocía sobre ellos el agua de la expiación, y haz pasar la navaja sobre todo su cuerpo, y lavarán sus vestidos, y serán purificados. 8 Luego tomarán un novillo, con su ofrenda de flor de harina amasada con aceite; y tomarás otro novillo para expiación. 9 Y harás que los levitas se acerquen delante del tabernáculo de reunión, y reunirás a toda la congregación de los hijos de Israel. 10 Y cuando hayas acercado a los levitas delante de Jehová, pondrán los hijos de Israel sus manos sobre los levitas; 11 y ofrecerá Aarón los levitas delante de Jehová en ofrenda de los hijos de Israel, y servirán en el ministerio de Jehová. 12 Y los levitas pondrán sus manos sobre las cabezas de los novillos; y ofrecerás el uno por expiación, y el otro en holocausto a Jehová, para hacer expiación por los levitas. 13 Y presentarás a los levitas delante de Aarón, y delante de sus hijos, y los ofrecerás en ofrenda a Jehová.

14 Así apartarás a los levitas de entre los hijos de Israel, y serán míos los levitas. 15 Después de eso vendrán los levitas a ministrar en el tabernáculo de reunión; serán purificados, y los ofrecerás en ofrenda. 16 Porque enteramente me son dedicados a mí los levitas de entre los hijos de Israel, en lugar de todo primer nacido; los he tomado para mí en lugar de los primogénitos de todos los hijos de Israel. 17 Porque mío es todo primogénito de entre los hijos de Israel, así de hombres como de animales; desde el día que yo herí a todo primogénito en la tierra de Egipto, los santifiqué para mí. 18 Y he tomado a los levitas en lugar de todos los primogénitos de los hijos de Israel. 19 Y yo he dado en don los levitas a Aarón y a sus hijos de entre los hijos de Israel, para que ejerzan el ministerio de los hijos de Israel en el tabernáculo de reunión, y reconcilien a los hijos de Israel; para que no haya plaga en los hijos de Israel, al acercarse los hijos de Israel al santuario.

20 Y Moisés y Aarón y toda la congregación de los hijos de Israel hicieron con los levitas conforme a todas las cosas que mandó Jehová a Moisés acerca de los levitas; así hicieron con ellos los hijos de Israel. 21 Y los levitas se purificaron, y lavaron sus vestidos; y Aarón los ofreció en ofrenda delante de Jehová, e hizo Aarón expiación por ellos para purificarlos. 22 Así vinieron después los levitas para ejercer su ministerio en el tabernáculo de reunión delante de Aarón y delante de sus hijos; de la manera que mandó Jehová a Moisés acerca de los levitas, así hicieron con ellos.

23 Luego habló Jehová a Moisés, diciendo: 24 Los levitas de veinticinco años arriba entrarán a ejercer su ministerio en el servicio del tabernáculo de reunión. 25 Pero desde los cincuenta años cesarán de ejercer su ministerio, y nunca más lo ejercerán. 26 Servirán con sus hermanos en el tabernáculo de reunión, para hacer la guardia, pero no servirán en el ministerio. “Los levitas deben comenzar a prestar sus servicios en la tienda del encuentro a los veinticinco años de edad, y retirarse de servicio a los cincuenta. Después de esa edad podrán ayudar a sus compañeros en sus oficios en la tienda del encuentro, pero no prestar servicio regular.” [versículo 24-26, Dios Habla Hoy]. El liderazgo eclesiástico del pueblo de Israel consistía de Moisés en un primer nivel, luego Aaron y sus hijos y en tercer lugar este capítulo presenta a los levitas. En una gran ceremonia son reconocidos públicamente por Moisés. Los levitas se acercarían al tabernáculo delante de Dios, toda la congregación de Israel presente, suponemos que mediante sus representantes pondrían sus manos sobre los levitas. Aaron ofrecería a los levitas en ofrenda de los hijos de Israel y servirían en el ministerio de Jehová. Una vez cumplidos los 50 años cesarían de servir en su ministerio, pero continuarían en otras funciones como la guardia del Tabernáculo. El servicio del Señor es de por vida, aunque no hagamos lo mismo que hacíamos cuando teníamos más salud, siempre hay alguna manera de servirle. Mientras nuestra salud física y mental nos lo permita sirvámosle, aunque con menos fuerzas, con el mismo gozo. El gozo que viene de Dios mi fuerza será, mi sostén traerá, el gozo que viene de Dios.

Numbers 8: The Setting Apart of the Levites.

1 The Lord said to Moses, 2 “Speak to Aaron and say to him, ‘When you set up the lamps, see that all seven light up the area in front of the lampstand.’”

3 Aaron did so; he set up the lamps so that they faced forward on the lampstand, just as the Lord commanded Moses. 4 This is how the lampstand was made: It was made of hammered gold—from its base to its blossoms. The lampstand was made exactly like the pattern the Lord had shown Moses.

The Setting Apart of the Levites
5 The Lord said to Moses: 6 “Take the Levites from among all the Israelites and make them ceremonially clean. 7 To purify them, do this: Sprinkle the water of cleansing on them; then have them shave their whole bodies and wash their clothes. And so they will purify themselves. 8 Have them take a young bull with its grain offering of the finest flour mixed with olive oil; then you are to take a second young bull for a sin offering.[a] 9 Bring the Levites to the front of the tent of meeting and assemble the whole Israelite community. 10 You are to bring the Levites before the Lord, and the Israelites are to lay their hands on them. 11 Aaron is to present the Levites before the Lord as a wave offering from the Israelites, so that they may be ready to do the work of the Lord.

12 “Then the Levites are to lay their hands on the heads of the bulls, using one for a sin offering to the Lord and the other for a burnt offering, to make atonement for the Levites. 13 Have the Levites stand in front of Aaron and his sons and then present them as a wave offering to the Lord. 14 In this way you are to set the Levites apart from the other Israelites, and the Levites will be mine.

15 “After you have purified the Levites and presented them as a wave offering, they are to come to do their work at the tent of meeting. 16 They are the Israelites who are to be given wholly to me. I have taken them as my own in place of the firstborn, the first male offspring from every Israelite woman. 17 Every firstborn male in Israel, whether human or animal, is mine. When I struck down all the firstborn in Egypt, I set them apart for myself. 18 And I have taken the Levites in place of all the firstborn sons in Israel. 19 From among all the Israelites, I have given the Levites as gifts to Aaron and his sons to do the work at the tent of meeting on behalf of the Israelites and to make atonement for them so that no plague will strike the Israelites when they go near the sanctuary.”

20 Moses, Aaron and the whole Israelite community did with the Levites just as the Lord commanded Moses. 21 The Levites purified themselves and washed their clothes. Then Aaron presented them as a wave offering before the Lord and made atonement for them to purify them. 22 After that, the Levites came to do their work at the tent of meeting under the supervision of Aaron and his sons. They did with the Levites just as the Lord commanded Moses.

23 The Lord said to Moses, 24 “This applies to the Levites: Men twenty-five years old or more shall come to take part in the work at the tent of meeting, 25 but at the age of fifty, they must retire from their regular service and work no longer. 26 They may assist their brothers in performing their duties at the tent of meeting, but they themselves must not do the work. This, then, is how you are to assign the responsibilities of the Levites.”

” “The Levites are to begin serving in the Tabernacle at the age of twenty-five, and are to retire at the age of fifty. 25-26 After retirement they can assist with various light duties in the Tabernacle, but will have no regular responsibilities.” [Verses 24-26, Living Bible]. The ecclesiastical leadership of the people of Israel consisted of Moses on one level first, then Aaron and his sons and thirdly this chapter introduces the Levites. In a great ceremony they are publicly recognized by Moses. The Levites would approach the tabernacle before God, the whole congregation of Israel present, we suppose that through their representatives they would lay their hands on the Levites. Aaron would offer the Levites as an offering to the children of Israel and they would serve in the Lord’s ministry. The Levites in turn would lay their hands on the heads of the bullocks offering them as sacrifices and burnt offerings. The scene offers us a great contrast of animals that die as an offering to God and people who must live for His service. While they would only participate in the transportation of the tabernacle between the ages of 30 and 50, in the normal service of the tabernacle they would serve, as this chapter says, from the ages of 25 to 50. Once they reached the age of 50, they would cease to serve in their ministry, but they would continue in other functions such as the guard of the Tabernacle. The Lord’s service is for life, even if we don’t do the same thing we did when we were healthier, there is always some way to serve Him. As long as our physical and mental health allows us, let us serve Him, although with less physical strength, with the same joy. The joy that comes from God will be my strength, my support it will bring, the joy that comes from God.
