Génesis 15: Dios promete a Abram un hijo.
1 DESPUÉS de estas cosas fué la palabra de Jehová á Abram en visión, diciendo: No temas, Abram; yo soy tu escudo, y tu galardón sobremanera grande.
2 Y respondió Abram: Señor Jehová ¿qué me has de dar, siendo así que ando sin hijo, y el mayordomo de mi casa es ese Damasceno Eliezer?
3 Dijo más Abram: Mira que no me has dado prole, y he aquí que es mi heredero uno nacido en mi casa.
4 Y luego la palabra de Jehová fué á él diciendo: No te heredará éste, sino el que saldrá de tus entrañas será el que te herede.
5 Y sacóle fuera, y dijo: Mira ahora á los cielos, y cuenta las estrellas, si las puedes contar. Y le dijo: Así será tu simiente.
6 Y creyó á Jehová, y contóselo por justicia.
7 Y díjole: Yo soy Jehová, que te saqué de Ur de los Caldeos, para darte á heredar esta tierra.
8 Y él respondió: Señor Jehová ¿en qué conoceré que la tengo de heredar?
9 Y le dijo: Apártame una becerra de tres años, y una cabra de tres años, y un carnero de tres años, una tórtola también, y un palomino.
10 Y tomó él todas estas cosas, y partiólas por la mitad, y puso cada mitad una enfrente de otra; mas no partió las aves.
11 Y descendían aves sobre los cuerpos muertos, y ojeábalas Abram.
12 Mas á la caída del sol sobrecogió el sueño á Abram, y he aquí que el pavor de una grande obscuridad cayó sobre él.
13 Entonces dijo á Abram: Ten por cierto que tu simiente será peregrina en tierra no suya, y servirá á los de allí, y serán por ellos afligidos cuatrocientos años.
14 Mas también á la gente á quien servirán, juzgaré yo; y después de esto saldrán con grande riqueza.
15 Y tú vendrás á tus padres en paz, y serás sepultado en buena vejez.
16 Y en la cuarta generación volverán acá: porque aun no está cumplida la maldad del Amorrheo hasta aquí.
17 Y sucedió que puesto el sol, y ya obscurecido, dejóse ver un horno humeando, y una antorcha de fuego que pasó por entre los animales divididos.
18 En aquel día hizo Jehová un pacto con Abram diciendo: A tu simiente daré esta tierra desde el río de Egipto hasta el río grande, el río Eufrates;
19 Los Cineos, y los Ceneceos, y los Cedmoneos,
20 Y los Hetheos, y los Pherezeos, y los Raphaitas,
21 Y los Amorrheos, y los Cananeos, y los Gergeseos, y los Jebuseos.

“La fe es creer lo que no se ve; La recompensa de esta fe es ver lo que crees.” [San Agustín]. Que maravillosa la promesa que Dios da a Abram al decirle:” No temas, Abram, yo soy un escudo para ti; tu recompensa será muy grande.” [versículo 1, Biblia de las Américas]. ¡Que dulce suena esto a nuestros oídos, especialmente cuando estamos en una situación crítica! Y Dios agrega que su galardón será sobremanera grande. Abram no necesitaba más riquezas, lo que él quería era un hijo. Según la costumbre de la época, si una persona no tenía hijos el esclavo heredaba todo. Esto seguramente fue un motivo de su preocupación. Dios le aclara que sería un hijo suyo quien recibiría la herencia. Dios utilizó parte de Su maravillosa creación para explicarle Su promesa. Primero le lleva afuera y le dice que alce sus ojos y que mire el innumerable escenario de estrellas. Le pregunta: ¿Las puedes contar? Así será tu descendencia. Nosotros debemos mirar más frecuentemente al cielo para darnos cuenta de tantas bendiciones que hemos recibido. También le menciona que su descendencia sería como la arena del mar, que tampoco se puede contar. Y Abram creyó a Dios y le fue contado por justicia. Hoy tú también puedes ser justificado por la fe, creyendo en el sacrificio de Cristo en la cruz y tu fe te será contada por justicia. “La fe ve lo invisible, cree en lo increíble y recibe lo imposible.” [Corrie Ten Boom].
Genesis 15:God’s Covenant with Abram
1 After these things the word of the Lord came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.
2 And Abram said, Lord God, what wilt thou give me, seeing I go childless, and the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus?
3 And Abram said, Behold, to me thou hast given no seed: and, lo, one born in my house is mine heir.
4 And, behold, the word of the Lord came unto him, saying, This shall not be thine heir; but he that shall come forth out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir.
5 And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.
6 And he believed in the Lord; and he counted it to him for righteousness.
7 And he said unto him, I am the Lord that brought thee out of Ur of the Chaldees, to give thee this land to inherit it.
8 And he said, Lord God, whereby shall I know that I shall inherit it?
9 And he said unto him, Take me an heifer of three years old, and a she goat of three years old, and a ram of three years old, and a turtledove, and a young pigeon.
10 And he took unto him all these, and divided them in the midst, and laid each piece one against another: but the birds divided he not.
11 And when the fowls came down upon the carcases, Abram drove them away.
12 And when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and, lo, an horror of great darkness fell upon him.
13 And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years;
14 And also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge: and afterward shall they come out with great substance.
15 And thou shalt go to thy fathers in peace; thou shalt be buried in a good old age.
16 But in the fourth generation they shall come hither again: for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full.
17 And it came to pass, that, when the sun went down, and it was dark, behold a smoking furnace, and a burning lamp that passed between those pieces.
18 In the same day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates:
19 The Kenites, and the Kenizzites, and the Kadmonites,
20 And the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Rephaims,
21 And the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.

“Faith is to believe what you do not see; the reward of this faith is to see what you believe.” [St. Augustine]. How wonderful is the promise that God gives to Abram when he says, “Do not fear, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward.” [verse 1, Modern English Version]. How sweet this sounds to our ears, especially when we are in a critical situation! And God adds that his reward will be exceedingly great. Abram didn’t need any more riches, what he wanted was a son. According to the custom of the time, if a person had no children, the slave inherited everything. This was surely a cause for his concern. God made it clear to him that it would be a son of his who would receive the inheritance. God used part of His wonderful creation to explain His promise to you. First, he takes him outside and tells him to lift his eyes and look at the countless scenery of stars. He asks: Can you count them? So will your offspring be. We must lift up our eyes more frequently to heaven to realize the many blessings we have received. He also mentions that his offspring would be like the sand of the sea, which cannot be counted either. And Abram believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness. Today you too can be justified by faith, believing in Christ’s sacrifice on the cross, and your faith will be counted to you as righteousness. “Faith sees the invisible, believes the unbelievable, and receives the impossible.” [Corrie Ten Boom].
