“Quiero alabarte, Señor, con todo el corazón, y contar todas tus maravillas. Quiero alegrarme y regocijarme en ti y cantar salmos a tu nombre, oh Altísimo.” [ versos 1 y 2, RVR 1960]. Tengo sobrados motivos para alabar a Dios y agradecerle por Su gran misericordia para conmigo. Cada vez que leo este salmo no puedo dejar de leer lo que tengo escrito en el margen de mi Biblia: ¡nueve años de sobreviviente de cáncer! Según el informe “Cancer Facts & Figures 2024” de la Sociedad Americana del Cáncer, se estima que en 2024 se diagnosticarían poco más de dos millones de nuevos casos de cáncer en los Estados Unidos, y se producirán alrededor de 600,000 muertes por esta enfermedad. Esta enfermedad, al igual que otras, no solo afecta nuestro cuerpo sino también nuestro estado de ánimo. Han pasado más de dos décadas y aún no he olvidado el impacto que me causó ese diagnóstico, ni tampoco de alabarle con todo mi corazón, ni de cantar Sus maravillas. En medio de tratamientos y días difíciles, fue una gran bendición tener en quién refugiarme, porque Él fue y es mi “refugio en tiempos de angustia” (versículo 9, RVR 1960). Culce refugio en la tormenta es Jesucristo, el Salvador. Él me anima y me alimenta con Su palabra y Su amor. Vengo a descansar en Él; Él es mi amigo fiel… ¡También puede ser el tuyo!

1 I will give thanks to you, Lord, with all my heart;
I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.
2 I will be glad and rejoice in you;
I will sing the praises of your name, O Most High.

3 My enemies turn back;
they stumble and perish before you.
4 For you have upheld my right and my cause,
sitting enthroned as the righteous judge.
5 You have rebuked the nations and destroyed the wicked;
you have blotted out their name for ever and ever.
6 Endless ruin has overtaken my enemies,

“I will praise You, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all Your wonderful deeds. I will be glad and rejoice in You; I will sing the praises of Your name, O Most High.” [Verses 1 and 2, NKJV]. I have countless reasons to praise God and thank Him for His great mercy toward me. Every time I read this psalm, I can’t help but see what I wrote in the margin of my Bible: nine years as a cancer survivor! According to the “Cancer Facts & Figures 2024” report by the American Cancer Society, it is estimated that over two million new cases of cancer will be diagnosed in the United States in 2024, and around 600,000 deaths will occur due to this disease. Cancer, like many other illnesses, affects not only the body but also the spirit. More than two decades have passed, yet I have not forgotten the impact of that diagnosis, nor have I stopped praising Him with all my heart and proclaiming His wonders. In the midst of treatments and difficult days, it was a great blessing to have someone to turn to, for He was—and is—my “refuge in times of trouble” (verse 9, NKJV). Sweet refuge in the storm is Jesus Christ, the Savior. He encourages me and nourishes me with His Word and His love. I come to rest in Him; He is my faithful friend… and He can be yours too!
