Éxodo 33: La Tienda de reunión.
1 El Señor dijo a Moisés: «Anda, vete de este lugar junto con el pueblo que sacaste de Egipto y dirígete a la tierra que bajo juramento prometí a Abraham, Isaac y Jacob que daría a sus descendientes. 2 Enviaré un ángel delante de ti y desalojaré a cananeos, amorreos, hititas, ferezeos, heveos y jebuseos. 3 Ve a la tierra donde abundan la leche y la miel. Yo no los acompañaré, porque ustedes son un pueblo terco, y podría yo destruirlos en el camino».
4 Cuando los israelitas oyeron estas palabras tan demoledoras, se vistieron de luto y nadie volvió a ponerse sus adornos, 5 pues el Señor había dicho a Moisés: «Di a los israelitas que son un pueblo terco. Si aun por un momento tuviera que acompañarlos, podría destruirlos. Diles que se quiten esas joyas, que ya decidiré qué hacer con ellos». 6 Por eso, a partir del monte Horeb los israelitas no volvieron a ponerse joyas.
La Tienda de reunión
7 Moisés tomó una tienda de campaña y la armó a cierta distancia fuera del campamento. La llamó la «Tienda de reunión». Cuando alguien quería consultar al Señor, tenía que salir del campamento e ir a la Tienda. 8 Siempre que Moisés se dirigía a ella, todo el pueblo se quedaba de pie a la entrada de su tienda y seguía a Moisés con la mirada, hasta que este entraba en la Tienda de reunión. 9 En cuanto Moisés entraba en ella, la columna de nube descendía y se detenía en la entrada, mientras el Señor hablaba con Moisés. 10 Cuando los israelitas veían que la columna de nube se detenía a la entrada de la Tienda de reunión, todos ellos se postraban a la entrada de su tienda de campaña y adoraban. 11 Y hablaba el Señor con Moisés cara a cara, como quien habla con un amigo. Después de eso, Moisés regresaba al campamento; pero Josué, hijo de Nun, su joven asistente, nunca se apartaba de la Tienda de reunión.
La gloria del Señor
12 Moisés dijo al Señor:
—Tú insistes en que yo debo guiar a este pueblo, pero no me has dicho a quién enviarás conmigo. También me has dicho que te conozco por nombre y que cuento con tu favor. 13 Pues si realmente es así, dime cuáles son tus caminos. Así sabré que en verdad cuento con tu favor. Ten presente que los israelitas son tu pueblo.
14 —Yo mismo iré contigo y te daré descanso —respondió el Señor.
15 —O vas con todos nosotros —respondió Moisés—, o mejor no nos hagas salir de aquí. 16 Si no vienes con nosotros, ¿cómo vamos a saber, tu pueblo y yo, que contamos con tu favor? ¿En qué seríamos diferentes de los demás pueblos de la tierra?
17 —Está bien, haré lo que me pides —dijo el Señor a Moisés—, pues cuentas con mi favor y te conozco por nombre.
18 —Déjame ver tu gloria —insistió Moisés.
19 Y el Señor respondió:
—Voy a darte pruebas de mi bondad y te daré a conocer mi nombre. Tendré misericordia de quien quiera tenerla y seré compasivo con quien quiera serlo. 20 Pero debo aclararte que no podrás ver mi rostro, porque nadie puede verme y seguir con vida.
21 »Cerca de mí hay un lugar sobre una roca —añadió el Señor—. Puedes quedarte allí. 22 Cuando yo pase en toda mi gloria, te pondré en una hendidura de la roca y te cubriré con mi mano, hasta que haya pasado. 23 Luego retiraré la mano y podrás verme la espalda. Pero mi rostro nadie lo verá».

“El amor de Dios nos dice que Él es un Dios que busca la amistad, y Su Palabra nos asegura que Él es nuestro amigo y que quiere que nosotros seamos Sus amigos. Ningún hombre con un mínimo de humildad pensaría primero que es amigo de Dios; Pero la idea no se originó en los hombres. Abraham nunca hubiera dicho: “Soy amigo de Dios”, pero Dios mismo dijo que Abraham era Su amigo.” [A.W. Tozer]. La intimidad que el final de este capítulo revela acerca de la relación y del corazón de Moises hacia Dios nos hace pensar que Moises era también un amigo de Dios. “—O vas con todos nosotros —respondió Moisés—, o mejor no nos hagas salir de aquí.” [versículo 15, Nueva Version Internacional]. No vale ni el esfuerzo ni el logro de llegar a la tierra prometida si Dios no está con nosotros. Tampoco se disfruta plenamente un hermoso paisaje si un genuino amigo con quien compartirlo. “Nunca olvides que Dios es tu amigo. Y como todos los amigos, Él anhela escuchar lo que ha estado sucediendo en tu vida. Bueno o malo, ya sea que haya estado lleno de tristeza o ira, o incluso cuando te preguntas por qué tienen que suceder cosas terribles”. [Nicholas Sparks]. Me encanta la respuesta de Dios: “—Yo mismo iré contigo y te daré descanso —respondió el Señor.” [versículo 14, Nueva Version Internacional]. También irá contigo cada hora, cada minuto y cada segundo del resto de este día. Disfrútalo.
Exodus 33: The Tent of Meeting.
1 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Leave this place, you and the people you brought up out of Egypt, and go up to the land I promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, saying, ‘I will give it to your descendants.’ 2 I will send an angel before you and drive out the Canaanites, Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites. 3 Go up to the land flowing with milk and honey. But I will not go with you, because you are a stiff-necked people and I might destroy you on the way.”
4 When the people heard these distressing words, they began to mourn and no one put on any ornaments. 5 For the Lord had said to Moses, “Tell the Israelites, ‘You are a stiff-necked people. If I were to go with you even for a moment, I might destroy you. Now take off your ornaments and I will decide what to do with you.’” 6 So the Israelites stripped off their ornaments at Mount Horeb.
The Tent of Meeting
7 Now Moses used to take a tent and pitch it outside the camp some distance away, calling it the “tent of meeting.” Anyone inquiring of the Lord would go to the tent of meeting outside the camp. 8 And whenever Moses went out to the tent, all the people rose and stood at the entrances to their tents, watching Moses until he entered the tent. 9 As Moses went into the tent, the pillar of cloud would come down and stay at the entrance, while the Lord spoke with Moses. 10 Whenever the people saw the pillar of cloud standing at the entrance to the tent, they all stood and worshiped, each at the entrance to their tent. 11 The Lord would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend. Then Moses would return to the camp, but his young aide Joshua son of Nun did not leave the tent.
Moses and the Glory of the Lord
12 Moses said to the Lord, “You have been telling me, ‘Lead these people,’ but you have not let me know whom you will send with me. You have said, ‘I know you by name and you have found favor with me.’ 13 If you are pleased with me, teach me your ways so I may know you and continue to find favor with you. Remember that this nation is your people.”
14 The Lord replied, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”
15 Then Moses said to him, “If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here. 16 How will anyone know that you are pleased with me and with your people unless you go with us? What else will distinguish me and your people from all the other people on the face of the earth?”
17 And the Lord said to Moses, “I will do the very thing you have asked, because I am pleased with you and I know you by name.”
18 Then Moses said, “Now show me your glory.”
19 And the Lord said, “I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the Lord, in your presence. I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. 20 But,” he said, “you cannot see my face, for no one may see me and live.”
21 Then the Lord said, “There is a place near me where you may stand on a rock. 22 When my glory passes by, I will put you in a cleft in the rock and cover you with my hand until I have passed by. 23 Then I will remove my hand and you will see my back; but my face must not be seen.”

“God’s love tells us that He is friendly, and His Word assures us that He is our friend and wants us to be His friends. No man with a trace of humility would first think that he is a friend of God; but the idea did not originate with men. Abraham would never have said, “I am God’s friend,” but God Himself said that Abraham was His friend.” [A.W. Tozer]. The intimacy that the end of this chapter reveals about Moses’ relationship and heart toward God makes us think that Moses was also a friend of God. “Moses said, “If your presence doesn’t take the lead here, call this trip off right now’ [verse 15, The Message]. It is not worth the effort or the achievement of reaching the promised land if God is not with us. Nor can you fully enjoy a beautiful landscape without a genuine friend to share it with. “Never forget that God is your friend. And like all friends, He longs to hear what’s been happening in your life. Good or bad, whether it’s been full of sorrow or anger, or even when you’re questioning why terrible things have to happen.” [Nicholas Sparks]. I love God’s answer: “The Lord replied, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” [verse 14, New International Version]. He will also go with you every hour, every minute, and every second of the rest of this day. Enjoy Him.
