Marcos 13: Jesús predice la destrucción del templo.
1 Cuando salía Jesús del Templo, dijo uno de sus discípulos:
—¡Mira, Maestro! ¡Qué piedras! ¡Qué edificios!
2 —¿Ves todos estos grandiosos edificios? —contestó Jesús—. No quedará piedra sobre piedra, pues todo será derribado.
3 Más tarde, estaba Jesús sentado en el monte de los Olivos, frente al Templo. Y Pedro, Santiago, Juan y Andrés le preguntaron en privado:
4 —Dinos, ¿cuándo sucederá eso y cuál será la señal de que todo está a punto de cumplirse?
5 —Tengan cuidado de que nadie los engañe —comenzó Jesús a advertirles—. 6 Vendrán muchos que, usando mi nombre, dirán: “Yo soy”, y engañarán a muchos. 7 Cuando sepan de guerras y de rumores de guerras, no se alarmen. Es necesario que eso suceda, pero no será todavía el fin. 8 Se levantará nación contra nación y reino contra reino. Habrá terremotos en diferentes lugares; también habrá hambre. Esto será apenas el comienzo de los dolores.
9 »Pero ustedes cuídense. Los entregarán a los tribunales y los azotarán en las sinagogas. Por mi causa comparecerán ante gobernadores y reyes para dar testimonio ante ellos. 10 Pero primero tendrá que predicarse el evangelio a todas las naciones. 11 Y cuando los arresten, no se preocupen de antemano por lo que van a decir. Solo declaren lo que se les dé a decir en ese momento, porque no serán ustedes los que hablen, sino el Espíritu Santo.
12 »El hermano entregará a la muerte al hermano, y el padre al hijo. Los hijos se rebelarán contra sus padres y harán que los maten. 13 Por causa de mi nombre todo el mundo los odiará, pero el que se mantenga firme hasta el fin será salvo.
14 »Ahora bien, cuando vean “la abominación que causa destrucción”[a] donde no debe estar (el que lee, que lo entienda), entonces los que estén en Judea huyan a las montañas. 15 El que esté en la azotea no baje ni entre en casa para llevarse nada. 16 Y el que esté en el campo no regrese para buscar su capa. 17 ¡Ay de las que estén embarazadas o amamantando en aquellos días! 18 Oren para que esto no suceda en invierno, 19 porque serán días de tribulación, como no la ha habido desde el principio, cuando Dios creó el mundo,[b] ni la habrá jamás. 20 Si el Señor no hubiera acortado esos días, nadie sobreviviría, pero por causa de los que él ha elegido, los ha acortado. 21 Entonces, si alguien les dice: “¡Miren, aquí está el Cristo!” o “¡Miren, allí está!”, no lo crean. 22 Porque surgirán falsos Cristos y falsos profetas que harán señales y milagros para engañar, de ser posible, aun a los elegidos. 23 Así que tengan cuidado; se lo he dicho a ustedes todo de antemano.
24 »Pero en aquellos días, después de esa tribulación,
»“se oscurecerá el sol
y no brillará más la luna;
25 las estrellas caerán del cielo
y los cuerpos celestes serán sacudidos”.[c]
26 »Verán entonces al Hijo del hombre venir en las nubes con gran poder y gloria. 27 Y él enviará a sus ángeles para reunir de los cuatro vientos a los elegidos, desde los confines de la tierra hasta los confines del cielo.
28 »Aprendan de la higuera esta lección: Tan pronto como se ponen tiernas sus ramas y brotan sus hojas, ustedes saben que el verano está cerca. 29 Igualmente, cuando vean que suceden estas cosas, sepan que el tiempo está cerca, a las puertas. 30 Les aseguro que no pasará esta generación hasta que todas estas cosas sucedan. 31 El cielo y la tierra pasarán, pero mis palabras jamás pasarán.

32 »Pero en cuanto al día y la hora, nadie lo sabe, ni siquiera los ángeles en el cielo, ni el Hijo, sino solo el Padre. 33 ¡Estén alerta! Manténganse despiertos[d] porque no saben cuándo llegará ese tiempo. 34 Es como cuando un hombre sale de viaje y deja su casa al cuidado de sus siervos, cada uno con su tarea, y manda al portero que vigile.
35 »Por lo tanto, manténganse despiertos porque no saben cuándo volverá el dueño de la casa, si al atardecer, o a la medianoche, o al canto del gallo, o al amanecer; 36 no sea que venga de repente y los encuentre dormidos. 37 Lo que les digo a ustedes, se lo digo a todos: ¡Manténganse despiertos!

“Lo que la oruga llama el fin del mundo el maestro lo llama una mariposa.” [Ricardo Bach]. “Cuando sepan de guerras y de rumores de guerras, no se alarmen. Es necesario que eso suceda, pero no será todavía el fin. Se levantará nación contra nación, y reino contra reino. Habrá terremotos por todas partes; También habrá hambre. Esto será apenas el comienzo de los dolores”. [versículos 7 y 8, Nueva Versión Internacional]. No podemos permanecer ajenos a los acontecimientos mundiales que tanto los medios de comunicación como las páginas de un libro escrito hace dos mil años nos dan a conocer. Ante tantas malas noticias algunos optan por enojarse con Dios y otros acudimos a Él en busca de aliento y consuelo. En realidad, nada podemos hacer acerca de los acontecimientos mundiales pero lo sí podemos hacer, es compartir con otros la esperanza de un mundo mejor porque “Es el fin del mundo todos los días, para alguien”. [Margaret Atwood] y nosotros sabemos que antes que este mundo termine volaremos como la mariposa para ser librados de la tribulación que este capítulo y las circunstancias mundiales manifiestan. No os turbéis nos dice Jesus [versículo 7], no os preocupéis [versículo 11] y principalmente, velad como enfatiza el final de este capítulo. “Aunque un ejército acampe contra mí, no temerá mi corazón; aunque en mi contra se levante guerra, a pesar de ello, estaré confiado.” [Salmo 27:3, Biblia de las Americas].
Mark 13: The Destruction of the Temple and Signs of the End Times.
1 As Jesus was leaving the temple, one of his disciples said to him, “Look, Teacher! What massive stones! What magnificent buildings!”
2 “Do you see all these great buildings?” replied Jesus. “Not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down.”
3 As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter, James, John and Andrew asked him privately, 4 “Tell us, when will these things happen? And what will be the sign that they are all about to be fulfilled?”
5 Jesus said to them: “Watch out that no one deceives you. 6 Many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am he,’ and will deceive many. 7 When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 8 Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places, and famines. These are the beginning of birth pains.
9 “You must be on your guard. You will be handed over to the local councils and flogged in the synagogues. On account of me you will stand before governors and kings as witnesses to them. 10 And the gospel must first be preached to all nations. 11 Whenever you are arrested and brought to trial, do not worry beforehand about what to say. Just say whatever is given you at the time, for it is not you speaking, but the Holy Spirit.
12 “Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child. Children will rebel against their parents and have them put to death. 13 Everyone will hate you because of me, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.
14 “When you see ‘the abomination that causes desolation’[a] standing where it[b] does not belong—let the reader understand—then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. 15 Let no one on the housetop go down or enter the house to take anything out. 16 Let no one in the field go back to get their cloak. 17 How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! 18 Pray that this will not take place in winter, 19 because those will be days of distress unequaled from the beginning, when God created the world, until now—and never to be equaled again.
20 “If the Lord had not cut short those days, no one would survive. But for the sake of the elect, whom he has chosen, he has shortened them. 21 At that time if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Messiah!’ or, ‘Look, there he is!’ do not believe it. 22 For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. 23 So be on your guard; I have told you everything ahead of time.
24 “But in those days, following that distress,
“‘the sun will be darkened,
and the moon will not give its light;
25 the stars will fall from the sky,
and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.’[c]
26 “At that time people will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory. 27 And he will send his angels and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of the heavens.
28 “Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. 29 Even so, when you see these things happening, you know that it[d] is near, right at the door. 30 Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. 31 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.
The Day and Hour Unknown
32 “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 33 Be on guard! Be alert[e]! You do not know when that time will come. 34 It’s like a man going away: He leaves his house and puts his servants in charge, each with their assigned task, and tells the one at the door to keep watch.
35 “Therefore keep watch because you do not know when the owner of the house will come back—whether in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or at dawn. 36 If he comes suddenly, do not let him find you sleeping. 37 What I say to you, I say to everyone: ‘Watch!’”

“What the caterpillar calls the end of the world, the master calls a butterfly.” [Richard Bach]. ” When you hear of wars and much talk about wars, do not be surprised. These things have to happen. But the end is not yet. Nations will have wars with other nations. Countries will fight against countries. The earth will shake and break apart in different places. There will be no food for people. There will be much trouble. These things are the beginning of much sorrow and pain.” [verses 7 and 8, New International Version]. We cannot remain oblivious to the world events that both the media and the pages of a book written two thousand years ago make known to us. In the face of so much bad news, some choose to be angry with God, and others turn to Him for encouragement and comfort. There is really nothing we can do about world events, but what we can do is share with others the hope of a better world because “It’s the end of the world every day, for someone.” [Margaret Atwood] and we know that before this world ends, we will fly like the butterfly to be delivered from the tribulation that this chapter and world circumstances manifest. Do not be troubled, Jesus tells us [verse 7], do not worry [verse 11], and above all, be sure to watch, as it is emphasized the end of this chapter. “Though an army deploys against me, my heart will not be afraid; though a war breaks out against me, I will still be confident.” [Psalm 27:3, Christian Standard Bible].
