Salmos 81: Bondad de Dios y perversidad de Israel.
1 Al Músico principal: sobre Gittith: Salmo de Asaph. CANTAD á Dios, fortaleza nuestra: Al Dios de Jacob celebrad con júbilo.
2 Tomad la canción, y tañed el adufe, El arpa deliciosa con el salterio.
3 Tocad la trompeta en la nueva luna, En el día señalado, en el día de nuestra solemnidad.
4 Porque estatuto es de Israel, Ordenanza del Dios de Jacob.
5 Por testimonio en José lo ha constituído, Cuando salió por la tierra de Egipto; Donde oí lenguaje que no entendía.
6 Aparté su hombro de debajo de la carga; Sus manos se quitaron de vasijas de barro.

13 Oh, si me hubiera oído mi pueblo, Si en mis caminos hubiera Israel andado!
14 En una nada habría yo derribado sus enemigos, Y vuelto mi mano sobre sus adversarios.
15 Los aborrecedores de Jehová se le hubieran sometido; Y el tiempo de ellos fuera para siempre.
16 Y Dios lo hubiera mantenido de grosura de trigo: Y de miel de la piedra te hubiera saciado.

Hay lugares que marcan nuestras vidas y que nunca los olvidaremos. Uno de esos lugares para el pueblo de Israel era Meriba o Meribá. Así lo llamó Moisés porque tristemente fue un lugar donde ellos “altercaron” con Dios. El versículo 7 hace referencia a ese lugar que nos deja un sabor agridulce porque Dios contesta la oración, pero no excusa la murmuración. Escuché de un área de mucha sequia en Australia. Los ganaderos tienen dos opciones para que no se les escape el ganado; pueden construir cercos y mantener así encerrado el ganado o pueden cavar manantiales. Si hay agua, el ganado nunca se alejará del lugar. Así hace Dios con nosotros; nos ofrece el agua de vida. Dios les dio abundante agua, sin embargo, con el pasar del tiempo ellos volvieron a tener sed. [Números 20: 7-13]. Jesús nos ofrece una alternativa inmensamente mejor: “—Todo el que beba de esta agua volverá a tener sed —respondió Jesús—, pero el que beba del agua que yo le daré no volverá a tener sed jamás, sino que dentro de él esa agua se convertirá en un manantial del que brotará vida eterna.” [Juan 4:12-13, Nueva Versión Internacional]. Nadie abandonaría un lugar así. Quien termina en ese manantial descubre la razón del principio del Salmo: “Canten alegres a Dios, nuestra fortaleza; ¡aclamen con regocijo al Dios de Jacob! ¡Entonen salmos! ¡Toquen ya la pandereta, la lira y el arpa melodiosa!” [versículos 1 y2, Nueva Versión Internacional]. ¡Que comience la música!
Psalm 81: An Appeal for Israel’s Repentance.
1 Sing aloud unto God our strength: make a joyful noise unto the God of Jacob.
2 Take a psalm, and bring hither the timbrel, the pleasant harp with the psaltery.
3 Blow up the trumpet in the new moon, in the time appointed, on our solemn feast day.
4 For this was a statute for Israel, and a law of the God of Jacob.
5 This he ordained in Joseph for a testimony, when he went out through the land of Egypt: where I heard a language that I understood not.
6 I removed his shoulder from the burden: his hands were delivered from the pots.
7 Thou calledst in trouble, and I delivered thee; I answered thee in the secret place of thunder: I proved thee at the waters of Meribah. Selah.
8 Hear, O my people, and I will testify unto thee: O Israel, if thou wilt hearken unto me;
9 There shall no strange god be in thee; neither shalt thou worship any strange god.
10 I am the Lord thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt: open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it.
11 But my people would not hearken to my voice; and Israel would none of me.
12 So I gave them up unto their own hearts’ lust: and they walked in their own counsels.
13 Oh that my people had hearkened unto me, and Israel had walked in my ways!
14 I should soon have subdued their enemies, and turned my hand against their adversaries.

There are certain places that mark our lives in such a way that we will never forget them. One such place for the people of Israel was Meribah. This is what Moses called the place because it was sadly a place where they “quarrelled” with God. Verse 7 refers to this place that leaves us with a bittersweet taste because God does answer their prayer, but He does not excuse their compalining. I heard about a very dry area in Australia. Farmers have two options to keep cattle from escaping; they can build fences and thus keep livestock locked up or they can dig water springs. If there’s water, the cattle will never walk away from the place. This is how God deals with us; he offers us the water of life. God gave them abundant water, yet over time they were thirsty again. [Numbers 20: 7-13]. Jesus offers us an immensely better alternative: “Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” [John 4:12-13, New International Version]. No one would ever leave a place like this. Whoever ends up in that spring discovers the reason for the beginning of the Psalm:” Sing for joy to God our strength; shout aloud to the God of Jacob! Begin the music, strike the timbrel, play the melodious harp and lyre” [verses 1 and 2, New International Version]. Let the music start!
