Juan 7: 37-53: Ríos de agua viva.
37 Mas en el postrer día grande de la fiesta, Jesús se ponía en pie y clamaba, diciendo: Si alguno tiene sed, venga á mí y beba.
38 El que cree en mí, como dice la Escritura, ríos de agua viva correrán de su vientre.
39 (Y esto dijo del Espíritu que habían de recibir los que creyesen en él: pues aun no había venido el Espíritu Santo; porque Jesús no estaba aún glorificado.)
40 Entonces algunos de la multitud, oyendo este dicho, decían: Verdaderamente éste es el profeta.
41 Otros decían: Este es el Cristo. Algunos empero decían: ¿De Galilea ha de venir el Cristo?
42 ¿No dice la Escritura, que de la simiente de David, y de la aldea de Bethlehem, de donde era David, vendrá el Cristo?
43 Así que había disensión entre la gente acerca de él.
44 Y algunos de ellos querían prenderle; mas ninguno echó sobre él manos.
45 Y los ministriles vinieron á los principales sacerdotes y á los Fariseos; y ellos les dijeron: ¿Por qué no le trajisteis?
46 Los ministriles respondieron: Nunca ha hablado hombre así como este hombre.
47 Entonces los Fariseos les respondieron: ¿Estáis también vosotros engañados?
48 ¿Ha creído en él alguno de los príncipes, ó de los Fariseos?
49 Mas estos comunales que no saben la ley, malditos son.
50 Díceles Nicodemo (el que vino á él de noche, el cual era uno de ellos):
51 ¿Juzga nuestra ley á hombre, si primero no oyere de él, y entendiere lo que ha hecho?
52 Respondieron y dijéronle: ¿Eres tú también Galileo? Escudriña y ve que de Galilea nunca se levantó profeta.
53 Y fuése cada uno á su casa.

“Relaciónate correctamente con Dios, encuentra tu gozo allí, y de ti fluirán ríos de agua viva.” [Oswald Chambers]. Durante estos días en los Estados Unidos los estudiantes gozan de una breve vacación de primavera. Para algunos recién empieza y para otros está terminando esta semana. En la lectura de hoy encontramos a Jesús en “el último y gran día de la fiesta” [versículo 37, Reina Varela 1960] declarando que Él era la fuente inagotable de perdón que sacia el alma sedienta. Lo que dijo en privado a la mujer samaritana ahora lo proclama en alta voz a la multitud reunida en el Templo. Sale del anonimato para sanar no solo el cuerpo sino también el alma. “Y había mucha murmuración entre la gente acerca de Él. Unos decían: Él es bueno. Otros decían: No, al contrario, extravía a la gente. Sin embargo, nadie hablaba abiertamente de Él por miedo a los judíos.” [versículos 12 y 13, Biblia de las Américas]. Los soldados que fueron con una orden de arresto declararon: —¡Nunca nadie ha hablado como ese hombre! [versículo 46, Nueva Biblia Internacional]. El capítulo termina en la mayoría de las versiones con una solemne declaración: “Así terminó la reunión, y cada uno se volvió a su casa.” [versículo 53, Nueva Traducción Viviente]. Que hermoso es pensar que como entonces, hoy también Jesús alza su voz para invitarnos a recibir de Él el agua vida. Jesús sigue prometiendo y dando “rios de agua viva.” Recíbele a Él y “no tendrás sed jamás [Juan 4:13 y 14].

37 In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.
38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
39 (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
40 Many of the people therefore, when they heard this saying, said, Of a truth this is the Prophet.
41 Others said, This is the Christ. But some said, Shall Christ come out of Galilee?
42 Hath not the scripture said, That Christ cometh of the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was?
43 So there was a division among the people because of him.
44 And some of them would have taken him; but no man laid hands on him.
45 Then came the officers to the chief priests and Pharisees; and they said unto them, Why have ye not brought him?
46 The officers answered, Never man spake like this man.
47 Then answered them the Pharisees, Are ye also deceived?
48 Have any of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed on him?
49 But this people who knoweth not the law are cursed.
50 Nicodemus saith unto them, (he that came to Jesus by night, being one of them,)
51 Doth our law judge any man, before it hear him, and know what he doeth?
52 They answered and said unto him, Art thou also of Galilee? Search, and look: for out of Galilee ariseth no prophet.
53 And every man went unto his own house.

“Be rightly related to God, find your joy there, and out of you will flow rivers of living water.” [Oswald Chambers]. During these days in the United States, students enjoy a short spring break. For some it is just beginning and for others it is ending this week. In today’s reading we find Jesus on ” On the last day, that great day of the feast” [verse 37, 21st Century King James] declaring that He was the inexhaustible source of forgiveness that satisfies the thirsty soul. What he said privately to the Samaritan woman he now loudly proclaims to the crowd gathered in the Temple. He comes out of anonymity to heal not only the body but also the soul. “And there was much murmuring among the people concerning Him. For some said, “He is a good man,” and others said, “Nay, for he deceiveth the people.” Yet no man spoke openly of Him for fear of the Jews.” [verses 12 and 13, 21st Century King James]. The soldiers who went with an arrest warrant declared: ““No one ever spoke the way this man does!” [verse 46, New International Bible]. The chapter ends in most versions with a solemn declaration: “Then the meeting broke up, and everybody went home.” [verse 53, New Living Translation]. How beautiful it is to think that then, as today, Jesus also raises his voice to invite us to receive from him the water of life. Jesus continues to promise and give “rivers of living water.” Receive Him and ” will never be thirsty again” [John 4:13-14].
