1 Protégeme, oh Dios,
porque en ti busco refugio.

2 Yo le he dicho al Señor: «Mi Señor eres tú.
Fuera de ti, no poseo bien alguno».
3 En cuanto a los santos que están en la tierra,
son los nobles en quienes está toda mi delicia.
4 Aumentarán los dolores
de los que corren tras otros dioses.
¡Jamás derramaré sus ofrendas de sangre
ni con mis labios pronunciaré sus nombres!

5 Tú, Señor, eres mi herencia y mi copa;
eres tú quien ha afirmado mi porción.
6 Bellos lugares me han tocado;
¡preciosa herencia me ha correspondido!
7 Bendeciré al Señor, quien me aconseja;
aun de noche mi corazón se instruye.
8 Siempre tengo presente al Señor;
con él a mi derecha, nada me hará caer.

9 Por eso mi corazón se alegra
y se regocijan mis entrañas;[a]

10 No me abandonarás en los dominios de la muerte;[b]

Es hermosa la heredad que me ha tocado.” [versículo 6, RVR 1960]. Algunos se preocupan porque tienen bienes que desean transmitir, mientras que otros sienten incertidumbre porque carecen de ellos. Hace un tiempo, curiosamente, mi esposo recibió un correo electrónico de un desconocido en África anunciando una supuesta herencia de $5,600,000 destinada a los más necesitados. Quizás tú también hayas recibido mensajes similares. Sin embargo, en este salmo, David habla de una herencia segura y eterna, disponible tanto para ricos como para pobres. Esta herencia no proviene de un extraño, ni está sujeta a fraudes, sino de nuestro Padre celestial. El único requisito para obtenerla es conocerlo a Él y ser conocido por Él, como dice en Gálatas 4:9: “…habiendo conocido a Dios, o más bien, siendo conocidos por Dios…”. El primer paso para recibir esta herencia es confiar en Jesús como nuestro único y suficiente Salvador. En Juan 1:12 se nos recuerda que “a todos los que le recibieron, a los que creen en su nombre, les dio potestad de ser hechos hijos de Dios”. Como hijos de Dios, somos también herederos suyos y coherederos con Cristo, según Romanos 8:17. La bendición de esta herencia no tiene comparación. El himno de James McGranahan lo expresa bellamente: “Ser de Dios los hijos caros, en Jesús sublime don; en Jesús nos mira el Padre y nos da su bendición. Mirad cuán grande el amor,
cuán grande el amor que el Padre ha manifestado, que hijos de Dios seamos por siempre llamados.”* La herencia que Dios nos ofrece es eterna, incorruptible y nos asegura una relación eterna con Él. ¡Qué privilegio tan maravilloso!

Psalm 16: The Hope of the Faithful, and the Messiah’s Victory.

1 Keep me safe, my God,
for in you I take refuge.

2 I say to the Lord, “You are my Lord;
apart from you I have no good thing.”
3 I say of the holy people who are in the land,
“They are the noble ones in whom is all my delight.”
4 Those who run after other gods will suffer more and more.
I will not pour out libations of blood to such gods
or take up their names on my lips.

5 Lord, you alone are my portion and my cup;
you make my lot secure.
6 The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;
surely I have a delightful inheritance.
7 I will praise the Lord, who counsels me;
even at night my heart instructs me.
8 I keep my eyes always on the Lord.
With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.

9 Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices;
my body also will rest secure,
10 because you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead,

The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places; yes, I have a good inheritance.” [Verse 6, NKJV]
Some people worry because they have possessions they want to pass on, while others feel uncertain because they lack them. Some time ago, curiously, my husband received an email from a stranger in Africa announcing a supposed inheritance of $5,600,000 to be distributed among the needy. Perhaps you, too, have received similar messages. However, in this psalm, David speaks of a secure and eternal inheritance, available to both the rich and the poor. This inheritance does not come from a stranger, nor is it subject to scams, but it comes from our heavenly Father. The only requirement to obtain it is to know Him and to be known by Him, as stated in Galatians 4:9: “…now that you have come to know God, or rather to be known by God…” The first step to receiving this inheritance is to trust in Jesus as our only and sufficient Savior. John 1:12 reminds us that “to all who did receive Him, who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God.” As God’s children, we are also His heirs and co-heirs with Christ, according to Romans 8:17. The blessing of this inheritance is beyond comparison. James McGranahan’s hymn beautifully expresses it:

*”To be God’s dear children,a sublime gift in Jesus;
in Jesus, the Father sees usand blesses us with His grace.
Behold what manner of love,what manner of love
the Father has bestowed,that we should be called
children of God forevermore.”*The inheritance God offers us is eternal, incorruptible, and assures us of an everlasting relationship with Him. What a wonderful privilege!
