Levítico 11: Animales limpios e inmundos.
1 El Señor ordenó a Moisés y a Aarón 2 que dijeran a los israelitas: «De todas las bestias que hay en tierra firme, estos son los animales que ustedes podrán comer: 3 los rumiantes que tienen la pezuña hendida y partida en dos. 4 Hay, sin embargo, rumiantes que no tienen la pezuña partida. De esos animales no podrán comer los siguientes:
»El camello, porque es rumiante, pero no tiene la pezuña partida en dos; este animal será impuro para ustedes.
5 »El tejón, porque es rumiante, pero no tiene la pezuña partida; este animal será impuro para ustedes.
6 »La liebre, porque es rumiante,[b] pero no tiene la pezuña partida; este animal será impuro para ustedes.
7 »El cerdo, porque tiene la pezuña partida en dos, pero no es rumiante; este animal será impuro para ustedes.
8 »No comerán la carne ni tocarán el cadáver de estos animales. Ustedes los considerarán animales impuros.
9 »De todos los animales que viven en el agua, es decir, en los mares y en los ríos, ustedes podrán comer los que tengan aletas y escamas. 10 En cambio, considerarán inmundos a todos los animales de los mares y de los ríos que no tengan aletas ni escamas, sean reptiles u otros animales acuáticos. 11 No comerán su carne y rechazarán su cadáver, porque ustedes los considerarán animales inmundos. 12 Todo animal acuático que no tenga aletas ni escamas será para ustedes un animal inmundo.
13 »Las siguientes aves ustedes las rechazarán y no las comerán, porque las considerarán animales inmundos: el águila, el quebrantahuesos, el buitre negro, 14 toda clase de milanos y halcones, 15 toda clase de cuervos, 16 el avestruz, la lechuza, la gaviota, y toda clase de gavilán, 17 el búho, el cormorán, el ibis, 18 la lechuza nocturna, el búho del desierto, el águila pescadora, 19 la cigüeña, toda clase de garzas, la abubilla y el murciélago.
20 »A todo insecto volador que camina en cuatro patas lo considerarán ustedes un animal inmundo. 21 Hay, sin embargo, algunos insectos voladores que caminan en cuatro patas y que ustedes podrán comer: los que además de sus patas tienen zancas para saltar, 22 y también toda clase de langostas, grillos y saltamontes. 23 Pero a los demás insectos alados que caminan en cuatro patas ustedes los considerarán animales inmundos.
Leyes sobre la impureza por tocar un animal impuro
24 »Ustedes quedarán impuros por lo siguiente:
»Todo el que toque el cadáver de esos animales quedará impuro hasta el anochecer.
25 »Todo el que recoja alguno de esos cadáveres deberá lavarse la ropa, y quedará impuro hasta el anochecer.
26 »Considerarán impuro a todo animal que no tenga la pezuña partida ni sea rumiante. Cualquiera que lo toque quedará impuro.
27 »De los animales de cuatro patas, tendrán por impuro a todo el que se apoya sobre la planta de sus patas. Cualquiera que toque los cadáveres de esos animales quedará impuro hasta el anochecer, 28 y todo el que los recoja deberá lavarse la ropa, y quedará impuro hasta el anochecer. A estos animales ustedes los considerarán impuros.
29 »Entre los animales que se arrastran, ustedes considerarán impuros a la comadreja, la rata, toda clase de lagartos, 30 la lagartija, la iguana, la salamandra y el camaleón. 31 Estos son los animales que ustedes considerarán impuros entre los que se arrastran. Todo el que toque el cadáver de esos animales quedará impuro hasta el anochecer.
Otras leyes sobre el contacto con animales impuros
32 »Cuando el cadáver de algún animal impuro toque algún objeto de madera, ropa, piel, un saco o cualquier utensilio de uso cotidiano, tal objeto quedará impuro. Deberá lavarse con agua y quedará impuro hasta el anochecer. Entonces volverá a ser puro.
33 »Si el cadáver de alguno de estos animales cae dentro de una vasija de barro, todo lo que la vasija contenga quedará impuro, y habrá que romperla. 34 Todo alimento sobre el que caiga agua de dicha vasija quedará impuro; lo mismo sucederá con todo líquido que haya en esa vasija. 35 Cualquier cosa sobre la que caiga parte de estos cadáveres quedará impura, y habrá que destruir los hornos y los fogones con los que haya entrado en contacto. Los cadáveres son impuros, y así deberán considerarlos. 36 Solo las fuentes o las cisternas que recogen agua permanecerán puras; cualquier otra cosa que toque un cadáver quedará impura.
37 »Si alguno de esos cadáveres cae sobre la semilla destinada a la siembra, la semilla permanecerá pura. 38 Pero si la semilla se remoja en agua y alguno de esos cadáveres cae sobre ella, deberán considerarla impura.
39 »Si muere algún animal de los que está permitido comer, quien toque su cadáver quedará impuro hasta el anochecer. 40 Quien coma carne de ese cadáver se lavará la ropa y quedará impuro hasta el anochecer. Quien lo recoja se lavará la ropa y quedará impuro hasta el anochecer.

41 »No comerán ustedes ninguno de los animales que se arrastran, porque son inmundos. 42 No comerán ningún animal que se arrastre sobre su vientre o que se apoye sobre sus plantas o que tenga más de cuatro patas. En resumen, no comerán ustedes ningún animal que se arrastra, porque es inmundo; 43 es decir, no se contaminen por causa de su inmundicia, pues son animales inmundos. 44 Yo soy el Señor su Dios, así que conságrense y manténganse santos, porque yo soy santo. No se hagan impuros por causa de los animales que se arrastran. 45 Yo soy el Señor, que los sacó de la tierra de Egipto para ser su Dios. Sean, pues, santos, porque yo soy santo.
Conclusión
46 »Esta es la ley acerca de los animales, de las aves y de todo ser que se mueve dentro de las aguas o que se arrastra por el suelo, 47 para que así puedan distinguir entre lo puro y lo impuro, entre lo que se puede comer y lo que no se debe comer».

“En ninguna parte podemos llegar a conocer la santidad de Dios, y caer bajo Su influencia y poder, excepto en el aposento interior. Bien se ha dicho: “Ningún hombre puede esperar progresar en la santidad si no está frecuentemente y por mucho tiempo a solas con Dios.” [Andrew Murray]. “Digan a los israelitas que, de todos los animales que viven en tierra, pueden comer …; pero no deben comer … [Versículos 2 y3, Dios Habla Hoy]. No había mascarillas para cubrirse la boca ni líquidos desinfectantes para evitar los contagios, sin embargo, Dios les da una serie de reglas precisas acerca de lo que podían tocar o comer para preservar la salud del pueblo del pacto. ¡Como dice el viejo adagio, mejor es prevenir que curar! Pasan varios siglos y en la nueva dispensación Dios le repite a Pedro: “Mata y come”, y agrega “Lo que Dios ha purificado, tú no lo llames impuro” [Hechos 11:7 y 9, Nueva Versión Internacional]. Si bien es importante para Dios que cuidemos nuestro cuerpo, más aún nuestro alimento e higiene espiritual. Leviticus 11: Clean and Unclean Food.
1 The Lord said to Moses and Aaron, 2 “Say to the Israelites: ‘Of all the animals that live on land, these are the ones you may eat: 3 You may eat any animal that has a divided hoof and that chews the cud.
4 “‘There are some that only chew the cud or only have a divided hoof, but you must not eat them. The camel, though it chews the cud, does not have a divided hoof; it is ceremonially unclean for you. 5 The hyrax, though it chews the cud, does not have a divided hoof; it is unclean for you. 6 The rabbit, though it chews the cud, does not have a divided hoof; it is unclean for you. 7 And the pig, though it has a divided hoof, does not chew the cud; it is unclean for you. 8 You must not eat their meat or touch their carcasses; they are unclean for you.
9 “‘Of all the creatures living in the water of the seas and the streams you may eat any that have fins and scales. 10 But all creatures in the seas or streams that do not have fins and scales—whether among all the swarming things or among all the other living creatures in the water—you are to regard as unclean. 11 And since you are to regard them as unclean, you must not eat their meat; you must regard their carcasses as unclean. 12 Anything living in the water that does not have fins and scales is to be regarded as unclean by you.
13 “‘These are the birds you are to regard as unclean and not eat because they are unclean: the eagle,[a] the vulture, the black vulture, 14 the red kite, any kind of black kite, 15 any kind of raven, 16 the horned owl, the screech owl, the gull, any kind of hawk, 17 the little owl, the cormorant, the great owl, 18 the white owl, the desert owl, the osprey, 19 the stork, any kind of heron, the hoopoe and the bat.
20 “‘All flying insects that walk on all fours are to be regarded as unclean by you. 21 There are, however, some flying insects that walk on all fours that you may eat: those that have jointed legs for hopping on the ground. 22 Of these you may eat any kind of locust, katydid, cricket or grasshopper. 23 But all other flying insects that have four legs you are to regard as unclean.
24 “‘You will make yourselves unclean by these; whoever touches their carcasses will be unclean till evening. 25 Whoever picks up one of their carcasses must wash their clothes, and they will be unclean till evening.
26 “‘Every animal that does not have a divided hoof or that does not chew the cud is unclean for you; whoever touches the carcass of any of them will be unclean. 27 Of all the animals that walk on all fours, those that walk on their paws are unclean for you; whoever touches their carcasses will be unclean till evening. 28 Anyone who picks up their carcasses must wash their clothes, and they will be unclean till evening. These animals are unclean for you.
29 “‘Of the animals that move along the ground, these are unclean for you: the weasel, the rat, any kind of great lizard, 30 the gecko, the monitor lizard, the wall lizard, the skink and the chameleon. 31 Of all those that move along the ground, these are unclean for you. Whoever touches them when they are dead will be unclean till evening. 32 When one of them dies and falls on something, that article, whatever its use, will be unclean, whether it is made of wood, cloth, hide or sackcloth. Put it in water; it will be unclean till evening, and then it will be clean. 33 If one of them falls into a clay pot, everything in it will be unclean, and you must break the pot. 34 Any food you are allowed to eat that has come into contact with water from any such pot is unclean, and any liquid that is drunk from such a pot is unclean. 35 Anything that one of their carcasses falls on becomes unclean; an oven or cooking pot must be broken up. They are unclean, and you are to regard them as unclean. 36 A spring, however, or a cistern for collecting water remains clean, but anyone who touches one of these carcasses is unclean. 37 If a carcass falls on any seeds that are to be planted, they remain clean. 38 But if water has been put on the seed and a carcass falls on it, it is unclean for you.
39 “‘If an animal that you are allowed to eat dies, anyone who touches its carcass will be unclean till evening. 40 Anyone who eats some of its carcass must wash their clothes, and they will be unclean till evening. Anyone who picks up the carcass must wash their clothes, and they will be unclean till evening.
41 “‘Every creature that moves along the ground is to be regarded as unclean; it is not to be eaten. 42 You are not to eat any creature that moves along the ground, whether it moves on its belly or walks on all fours or on many feet; it is unclean. 43 Do not defile yourselves by any of these creatures. Do not make yourselves unclean by means of them or be made unclean by them. 44 I am the Lord your God; consecrate yourselves and be holy, because I am holy. Do not make yourselves unclean by any creature that moves along the ground. 45 I am the Lord, who brought you up out of Egypt to be your God; therefore be holy, because I am holy.
46 “‘These are the regulations concerning animals, birds, every living thing that moves about in the water and every creature that moves along the ground. 47 You must distinguish between the unclean and the clean, between living creatures that may be eaten and those that may not be eaten.’”

“”Nowhere can we get to know the holiness of God, and come under His influence and power, except in the inner chamber. It has been well said: “No man can expect to make progress in holiness who is not often and long alone with God.” [Andrew Murray]. “Speak to the People of Israel. Tell them, Of all the animals on Earth, these are the animals that you may eat: “You may eat any animal … , but not an animal that … [versos 2 and 3, The Message]. There were no masks to cover their mouths or disinfectant lotions to prevent spreading of deceases, yet God gives them a number of precise rules about what they could touch or eat to preserve the health of the covenant people. As the old saying goes, An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure! Several centuries pass and in the new dispensation God repeats to Peter, “Kill and eat,” and adds ” ‘Never consider unclean what God has made pure.” [Acts 11:7 and 9, Common English Bible]. While it is important to God that we take care of our bodies, it is even more so to care for our spiritual food and hygiene. St Paul adds: “So whether you eat or drink or whatever else you do, do everything for the glory of God.” [1 Corinthians 10:31 New Living Translation Version]. Although the new covenant freed us from food restrictions, the call to holiness remains in full force. “For I am the Lord your God; you will therefore be sanctified, and you will be holy, for I am holy” [verse 44,], and because “Holiness, not happiness, is the chief end of man.” [Oswald Chambers].
